We are committed to making a positive impact with our sustainable programing at Lollaplooza and know that the issues facing our environment won’t stop when the music ends. Pledge to do your part to minimize waste, lower your carbon footprint, and support local businesses at the fest! Stay tuned for more details on all sustainability initiatives at the fest this year, and read on for ways you can help.
Get Here Green
Why it matters: Transportation to and from the festival is the main source of carbon emissions for the event.
What you can do: Lollapalooza works with Green Mountain Energy to offset CO2 emissions, but you can help us do more! Take the low-emission route to and from the festival. Carpool (use Uber Pool), bike, walk, or take public transportation. Check our info page for more information on exclusive bike rental deals through our friends at Divvy and bike valet and maintenance services through ChainLinks.
Reuse Materials & #BYOBottle
Why it matters: Nearly a million plastic beverage bottles are sold every minute. Worldwide, over 500 billion plastic bottles are used every year.
What you can do: Lollapalooza works with Event Water Solutions to provide free, cool, filtered water at Hydration Stations throughout the park to help you go refillable! We encourage fans to bring their own empty refillable water bottles.
BYOBottle: We are proud to join BYOBottle, a music industry campaign to promote reusable water bottles and turn the tide on plastic pollution. Recent images in the press show the shocking sea of plastic waste left behind after concerts and festivals, but momentum to promote solutions in the music scene is growing! Bring your own, EMPTY water bottle to Lolla to reduce plastic waste.
#BYOBottle and go Plastic Free!
Why it matters: Every year, 9 Million tons of plastic waste ends up in the ocean, a trillion plastic bags are used worldwide, and 500 million plastic straws are used a day.
What you can do: We’ve partnered with Love Hope Strength Foundation and Rock The Earth on Lollapalooza’s greening programs to encourage recycling and composting at the festival and educating fans on their missions. Use provided trash, compost, and recycling bins and get rewarded for going above and beyond through the festival’s Rock & Recycle Program, where you can earn a commemorative festival T-shirt and a chance to win a Heritage Bicycle or 2020 Lolla Tickets! Ambassadors from Love Hope Strength Foundation and Rock The Earth Divert It! Volunteers will be available to answer any questions you may have.
Support Sustainable Business
Why it matters: Fair trade, local, organic, and vegetable-focused items are the least environmentally damaging. Aluminum cans are more efficient to recycle than plastic bottles. Once the aluminum has been produced, it can be recycled repeatedly.
What you can do: Seek out plant based, organic, locally sourced meal options at the festival from our list of vendors, and alternatives to plastic when consuming beverages.
Why it matters: The issues that are facing our environment won’t stop when the music ends. Lolla Cares provides non-profit and cause related organizations a platform to reach thousands of people beyond the festival.
What you can do: Stop by Lolla Cares at the festival to learn more about how you can get involved and check out this year’s list of participating organizations here. Want to Be Part of the Festival? Check out available opportunities here.
