JoJo & The Pinecones are a New York City based band and 2016/17 Lincoln Center Kids Resident Artists. On their first youth focused album release, "Night & Day" (2017), the group known for their distinctive 'jazzed-up pop and popped-up jazz' style as Joelle & The Pinehurst Trio, now share their exceptional talent with a new audience as their all-ages friendly alter ego JoJo & The Pinecones.
On "Night & Day", the group who has been praised by NPR and who is known for their performances at The Rainbow Room, Tavern on the Green and most recently Lincoln Center's David Rubenstein Atrium, present well crafted and swinging jazz music created with families in mind. JoJo & The Pinecones are a band of highly trained jazz musicians who playfully experiment with infusing Americana, folk and pop influences into their jazz music. Lead singer Joelle Lurie is at the center of it all with her bold yet smooth voice that provides a familiar and comforting setting.
Lurie and her musical partner Benjamin Gallina as part of their residency at Lincoln Center Education, co-produced the album and wrote all of the original songs together. Working on this project Lurie and Gallina found themselves coloring outside the lines in the arrangements of these songs to create a unique sound and experience.
With 14 tracks this is a charming, robust and accessible collection of inspired original songs and thoughtfully curated and reimagined, family-friendly jazz standards. The 'Day' portion of the album is meant to feel energizing and exciting with faster and more upbeat songs to listen to while preparing for and participating in your day where the 'Night' part provides a more soothing and relaxing element, something you might to get ready for bed and go to sleep to. They are thrilled to be performing at Lollapalooza this August!
