I would like to see Dick Dale perform in front of 30,000 people some night....

that would be magic

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbnD4ZQ8y90

- pioneer of surf rock and one of the most influential guitarists of the early 1960s.
- He experimented with reverb and made use of custom made Fender amplifiers.
- Since Dale was left-handed he was initially forced to play a right-handed model, much like later guitarist Jimi Hendrix would do years later.

I HAVE SEEN HIM TWICE here in STL... AND the guy will take your breath away...  You can't get it fully via video... he is something else!!!

it would be the most amazing booking ...

Not a bad call. I think that would be more likely to be an Intonation or Pitchfork booking though.

I love Dick Dale.
I may have suggested him posts ago.

He pops up around Chicago now and again - I could totally see it.

Well heck, what's the point of doing something you're not supposed to do if someone comes along and tells you it's okay to do it?

I want you to hear Robert Mitchum sings calypso - it's positively savage!

Is that the guitar player who does those "surf" songs?

He's the grandaddy of them all!

The Ventures are also great, and in a newer vein, Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet are a lot of fun (though they exist no more) -
best known for Kids in the Hall music.

That'd be so bombin'!

I always wanted to learn to surf, but being a land locked midwestern gal all my life, it never happened for me.

Why didn't you lock this thread? Did you give up?

I prefer to leave threads focusing on a single artist unlocked as they seem to foster a more unique and worthwhile discussion.

Thanks, Doso. You're a buddy to a buddy.

(I was surprised it was still open for discussion myself.)

Well, ReeRee, if I'd known you were such a Dick Dale fan, I would have personally started this thread a long time ago!
