I'm finally at a point where I have to say something. Q: Why does Lollapalooza have so little respect for Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks? Pavement was unquestionably one of the best and most influential bands of the 90's. Malkmus was the reason Pavement was so good. Malkmus' current band is amazing. They have a secure following. One look at the Saturday or Sunday Lollapalooza schedule, and you see that bands are pretty evenly split between the two ends of Grant Park. Fine. Most bands are given at least an hour to play. Great. But when you look at Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, you'll see they have a 45-minunte set, up against the Raconteurs, CSS, and The Cool Kids. Playing against another good band can happen. I understand. Choices must be made. But playing for only 45 minutes, on the opposite field from where Radiohead is going to start, against 3 other good bands, is simply disrespectful for a guy who is considered by many to approach indie-godlike status. Please Lola organizers. Come to your senses, and move Malkmus to another time slot (even on a different day) where he can get the attention he richly deserves. It could be in the afternoon or anytime. Give him a full hour. My 2 cents. Thanks for reading. http://www.myspace.com/stephenmalkmus
