Okay, to be crystal clear, this is a thread for listing acts that meet the following criteria:

1) The act is playing in Chicago in the months of June, July, and/or August.

2) The act is playing a show or shows during that weekend that would make them extremely unlikely to make it to Chicago for Lollapalooza. This is especially relevant for acts that are playing other countries or who will be in the midst of a West Coast tour.

3) This is an act that would be extremely LIKELY to play Lollapalooza otherwise. If you don't know what bands are likely to play Lolla, you should probbaly abstain from this.

Acts who are playing Chicago this summer:

Nine Days
The Kooks
BB King
REM
Modest Mouse
The National
Abigail Washburn and the Sparrow String Quartet with Bela Fleck
The Swell Season
Ladytron
Datarock
Jack Ingram
Jamie Lidell
Willie Nelson
Musiq Soulchild
The Bon Mots
Son Volt
Orchestra Baobab
Rusted Root
Ekoostik Hookah
Family Groove Company
Mr. Blotto
New Monsoon
Tom Petty
The Verve Pipe
Spin Doctors
The Yardbirds
All the Warped Bands

Acts with shows around that time
The Police (NY/NJ on Aug 1st and 3rd)
Elvis Costello (NY/NJ on Aug 1st and 3rd)

Oya Festival in Norway Aug 5-9 (technically, it's possible to see any of these bands at Lolla)

My Bloody Valentine
N.E.R.D.
Sigur Ros
Iron & Wine
Lightspeed Champion
Raga Rockers
Diplo
Girl Talk
Jose Gonzales
Holy Fuck
Isis
Kid Sister & A-Trak
No Age
Okkervil River
Yeasayer

Summersonic Festival in Japan the following weekend:http://www.summersonic.com/index.html

The Swell Season is the only one on that list that is at all disappointing for me.

I don't think there are any earth shattering surprises. Unless you count the National...which I don't because I don't think opening for R.E.M. rules them out.

You are sorry that the Spin Doctors are not going to play Lollapalooza?  I wouldn't use their CD for a coaster.

Oh yeah...Ladytron...that's a very legitimate one.

I don't think we can count out bands playing Oya. Keep in mind that festival lasts until August 9...almost a full week after Lolla ends. What I would rule out is European bands with European dates in July who are playing Oya.

Did you have to bunch REM, Modest Mouse, The National, and The Swell Season together like that? That's just devastating to look at...

Why don't you just go to the R.E.M. show?

Well, I'm not a huge REM fan. As has been the case with most headliners. I just think they'd make a good closer for the weekend.

I will. I'd say at this point that The Beatles are highly unlikely.

Hey, it wouldn't be that hard to play Lollapalooza and then play Oya festival. Especially if that artist was playing on one of the later days, it would be completely feasible.

I am mostly saying this because I want to see My Bloody Valentine play Lolla so badly.

I'd leave the Oya ones off. If anything I think they're more likely for the reason odd lockset mentions. Why can't a band play Lola the 1st or 2nd AND play Oya on the 7th 8th or 9th?

As do I. I believe I'll be the first person in the proverbial "online" line for tickets.

I agree.  It can't take that long to get to Norway.  It's not like the bands will be traveling by Viking ship.
