I know, it's another thread.  Whatever.

A lot of people have been suggesting that bands like Oasis and Foo Fighters would be great Friday or Saturday night headliners, but do you really think that Lolla will upgrade the top of the lineup?  By last year's standards, there's no way we'd get the two said bands in addition to someone as big as Pearl Jam or Radiohead.

So do you think it's possible that the dynamic of Lolla's lineup will change this year in favor of bigger headliners?  Do you think competiton has forced the festival to do so, or do you think that if that change happens because of the new festivals, will it take a while for Lolla to catch up?

Discuss!

I think i know what you mean though. Are you saying someone like U2 or The Stones? I was thinking about U2 at Lolla this morning actually. And i definetly can see it happening. I have a feeling our Sunday headliner is 1.) going to be out of left field. 2.) Unique to the US festival circuit, 3.)A band or artist that peaked prior to 1995, 4.)Will make many people very happy...

I'm thinking one of the three: Bowie, U2 or Talking Heads. Just a hunch.

I'm not talking about the main headliner.  I'm talking about the possiblity of moving up from Interpol to a band like Oasis, in terms of popularity.  Does the festival really have any reason to do it?

well with all these new festivals popping up they have to come up with reasons for people to choose lolla besides the namesake. i think they will need some big headliners like that simply to compete with everyone else.

oh i see. I think they do need to step up their headliners (especially with the emergence of even more fests).
Every year they have a big name and then other festivals' subheadliners as our "headliners" on Friday and Saturday. I think they should focus a little more attention on the top (Perry is quoted as saying they get acts based on the "middle up")

yeah but hell he played during the day at Coachella that year. Not much of a headliner (that year anyway, this year is a different story).

I don't think Foo Fighters and Oasis would be that much of a stretch.  I would say Oasis might be about the same size draw as Ben Harper.  And Foo Fighters aren't as popular as they once were.

Once again....Kanye was a special guest, added late in the game at Coachella. It was just like Madonna playing in the day time at Coachella.

I still think he's an exception.  He may be even more popular now, but even in 2006, he had a couple #1 singles under his belt.  I think the only reason we got such a big act is because he loves Chicago.

You know what manders, I think the "problem" sort of speak, is that we have two headliners the first two nights, which leads to spreading their selves out too much.

I don't think there is a problem. Lolla has been very clear that they are build the lineup from the middle up. Where some of the other festivals have three killer headliners and then go downhill fast, Lolla has one big headliner (RHCP, PJ), a second pretty big headliner (Daft Punk, Kanye), and then a few acts that may be sub-headliners at another festival. But the smaller headliners allow them to really stack the lineup top-to-bottom and that's better anyway.

Can you explain?  How do we have two headliners the first two nights?  Do you mean Daft Punk and Ben Harper?  If so, Ben Harper isn't that big.

Ben Harper played a 15000 person venue here and it was pretty full.  Oasis played the same place but a lot of the people attending the show left after Jet (the opening act) finished playing.
