Alright I'm going to give this a try. The purpose of this is to try to predict/suggest who the schedule for next year's Lolla. It will take a while and hopefully by the time it's finished, it will have garnered some attention. I may still tinker with the presentation (stage names, photoshop schedule), but for now this looks like the easiest way to do it.

Each day, a thread will be started. Two things will happen in the thread. First, you will be able to vote in a poll for the bands previously suggested for a particular time slot. In other words, say eight bands have been suggested for the Bud Light headlining spot on Saturday. You will vote for one. Also in the thread, you will be able to suggest bands for the next announced designated time slot. I think I'm making it sound way too complicated than it actually will be. We'll start by working from the bottom up on the Friday schedule, followed by Saturday and then Sunday. Hopefully, this catches on and people enjoy it.

This thread will serve as the main thread where the schedule will remain updated. A separate thread will be created each day for a particular voting slot. Hopefully in this way, no one thread will get too big.

Too keep everything as simple as possible, we will follow the 2007 format in regards to time slots, stage names, and number of bands. No need to make anything more complicated.

Band 1: The Arcade Fire (Friday AT&T Headliner 8:30-10:00pm)

I like this idea vs. the massive threads where everybody tosses in their favorite bands.  This may end up more organized, maybe.

I'm of the more threads instead of less school of thought. I know some people think less is more. But, I think those people are wrong.

Doesn't anyone ever see like a really high page count of a potentially interesting thread but kind of avoid it because of the sheer mass of posts? Maybe I'm just neurotic, but I have a hard time hopping into a thread after its already like 4 pages in, because I feel obligated to read the thread history and not repeat what someone else already said.

I kind of agree with BSSM in that I don't see what the big deal is about the # of threads, HOWEVER, this sounds like a fun idea if it can be properly organized, so bring it on, AxYoung!

Bump...

I want to get some good opinions before I waste time on something no one will care about.

Would you guys participate?

And if so, do you think it would be a good idea to have a thread each day where you vote on a band for the designated time slot while also nominating a new band for the next designated slot?

you could just try it out for a day or two, and check out the response you get. that wouldnt really be wasting any time.

and yeah i think and poll in each thread would be better than a thread one day and a poll the next. that would be a lot more work, that could very easily and conveniently be shortened by just putting the poll in with the thread. maybe you could start with no options in the poll and as people suggest bands, you could add them to the poll.

I'm with you all the way on this one.  I've been on the board over a year and I am deathly afraid of the "Completely unrelated series of thoughts" thread.  I can't bring myself to even look at it!

Helpful advice: You can make polls as long as they need to be, if you get more than ten nominations, you can put the first ten, then click "edit poll" and add more one by one.

Yeah. Every once in awhile I sort of plunge in and put one random post, but don't check to see if anyone responded. Also that "Seen any good movies lately" is like that. I just feel like I'm throwing a bottle in the ocean when I post in one of those threads.

The movie thread is a good one to post (in if it's on topic, natch) - you should read that one and look for follow ups as well.

You guys do know about using the handy little button at the end of the opening message board page called "Posts Since Last Visit" with the little green arrow, no?  Just click that and scroll through all of the new posts from across the board.  You can even place your cursor over the individual posts to see a segment of the posting to determine if it's worth reading any further.  Saves time and energy when you've got lots to catch up on!

Excellent point. I have used that in the past, too.

My typical method involved looking at the bolded topics which indicate new content since my last visit. I click on the little green arrow and yellow page that appears in front of each bolded thread title and that automatically takes me to the first new post since I was last logged in to the board.

Lolla vs Coachella - a quick compare/contrast

^^ That's what I click on.

Can we do the Sunday headliner next? I think it would be helpful to start with the biggest names and work from there.

Because you have four entirely different festivals based on whether you get the smashing, radio, nails, or fuckin' machine.
