Perry’s Brings The Thunder

with one comment

One of the many highlights at Lollapalooza 2009 was the bigger, badder Perry’s stage.   For three straight days, the best in electronic and dance music poured out on the crowed from the thunderous new sound system. It was so kick-ass that it inspired the BEST DANCE EVER!

Were you one of the thousands at Perry’s this year? Let us know what you thought of the new setup by leaving a comment.

Saturday Morning Recap – Lolla In Full Swing

without comments

Yesterday’s festival yielded many epic performances for the history books of this storied festival.  One of the first acts of the day, Yuto Miyazawa, a 9-year-old guitar prodigy from Japan had bloggers’ tongues wagging, attracting a considerable audience for his sprightly guitar heroics at Kidzapalooza (recommendations for curious parents here).  Perry’s Stage, our home for DJ and electronica, stayed upbeat all day, pulling crowds to the unusual and awesome stage to see groups like A-Trak and KiD CuDi.  On the indie-rock front, Fleet Foxes shimmered, using their acclaimed, ethereal harmonies to turn Grant Park into hallowed ground, playfully poking fun at their lack of rock. Of Montreal did not disappoint fans looking for some color, amping up their fabled costume changes and pulling out all the stops in presentation of their material. This just so happened to include: an inflatable dolphin, afros, giant prosthetic arms, and tons of helium-filled balloons, to name a few devices used during the show.  The Decemberists took advantage of the festival to debut their rock opera The Hazards of Love (check out some video below).  Before the headliners, Andrew Bird whistled, strummed, and sang his heart out to excited concert-goers, leading into huge showings from Depeche Mode and Kings of Leon, who both had fans singing along as the Chicago nighttime skies cleared for today.  Check out videos from the day below!

With Friday behind us, Saturday is shaping up to be a blast.  It might be too early to tell what the weather holds, but checking out the music we can predict complete satisfaction.  Today’s acts include Diplo, Lykke Li, Glasvegas, Arctic Monkeys, Santigold, Atmosphere, Ben Harper, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and Tool, along with many, many more.

Decemberists Leave Us “Wanting” More

without comments

Man, it’s been a great week for Lollapalooza bands on late night TV. Last night it was Jay Leno’s turn as he welcomed the Decemberists. They cranked out the epic “The Wanting Comes In Waves”. The slow build of the song worked well and the all-out rock star ending has us excited to see this one live at Lollapalooza.
