After years working the line at fine-dining restaurants in Chicago, Spain, and Italy, Eddie Lakin opened the decidedly downscale Edzo’s Burger Shop in Evanston in 2009, and a second location in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago in 2012. By bringing a fine-dining mindset to a burger-and-fries joint, Eddie has put his own spin on classic hot dog stand fare. So the beef for the burgers is ground in-house every morning, spuds are fresh-cut and sometimes dusted with truffle salt, & the Nutella shakes are spun on an old-school spindle mixer. The result? A perfect mix of upscale meets lowbrow.
