Just in time for this year’s throwdown (which is currently in the public voting phase
), we caught up with 2011’s Lolla Remix
, to see what he’s been up to since taking the Lolla stage last summer.
What was the most fun part of the Lolla Remix contest? Most challenging?
The most fun part was kicking off a rave at noon and watching kids freak out even though most of them had never heard of us… most challenging part was trying to meet Perry!
What was it like performing on Perry’s stage during Lolla 2011?
It was massive! Best live experience to date. We’re used to playing smaller clubs, and playing Lolla was definitely inspiration to make “bigger trax.” You can see how complexity doesn’t translate in a large format like this, and when the energy is SO hyped in festival tent format, you need to have the biggest, simplest, most explosive material to lead the crowd to the mountain top. That performance has affected our creative process more than anything in recent memory.
This year we’ve asked participants to remix Delta Spirit’s “California” — do you have any advice for contestants?
Make something you like and not what you think people want to hear.
How has your win impacted your career this past year? Any new opportunities you’ve had as a direct result?
Only dating supermodels and only flying private. We were also featured on Jay Z’s blog
What has been your favorite fan feedback?
We like when people say we sound like Daft Punk…
